Autopsy

With The Icelandic Love Corporation

1996

At the beginning of 1996 The Icelandic Love Corporation: Sigrún Hrólfsdóttir, Jóní Jónsdóttir and Eirún Sigurðardóttir, started advertising their services in magazines and newspapers and distributing flyers. The message was: Experience contemporary art! Performances with grace and elegance! Professionalism first!

Autopsy was their first hired job, performed in the spring of 1996 in Reykjavík at a birthday party.
Well protected, dressed in white doctor’s robes, with protective masks, glasses, and gloves, they slid an elegant mayonnaise cake laying on a high steel wheel table, onto the middle of a dance floor. Examining the cake carefully with a stethoscope, they began the autopsy. They placed its contents in small clear plastic bags and kept a record of it while the audience applauded in total bliss. After this open autopsy lesson of the cake, they covered the remnants with a mall white sheet and walked it slowly out of the stage.
