Angel Performance

With the Icelandic Love Corporation, 1996

The Icelandic Love Corporation: Sigrún Hrólfsdóttir, Jóní Jónsdóttir and Eirún Sigurðardóttir, performed for a live audience for the first time on the 22nd of April 1996. The performance took place in Þjóðleikhúskjallarinn (The National Theatre Basement Stage) as part of a performance program organised by young artists.

The performance was called Angel Performance and began with the members of ILC entering the scene dressed in a thin plastic film with plastic wings on their backs, one holding a jar of tears, the other embracing a cloud, and the third one carrying big scissors. In a calm manner, they started the uncomfortable but seemingly necessary task to cut the wings off each other’s back and fake blood began to trickle down their backs, while they consoled each other through the process. At that time the members of ILC: Eirún, Jóní and Sigrún were students at The Icelandic College of Arts and Crafts (now the University of the Arts) from which they graduated in the spring of 1996.

The Angel Performance took about 15-20 min and has since then been performed by the ILC in various versions.
