Kiss Performance
With The Icelandic Love Corporation
RÚV 1996, 2007 and 2016
The Kiss Performance was The Icelandic Love Corporation’s first performance. It was specially created for television and performed live on the 22nd of April 1996 in a program called Dagsljós, right before the evening news, on The Icelandic National Television, RUV. They were invited to appear on the show to promote an evening of performances that took place in the National Theatre Basement later that evening.
The three artists, members and founders of ILC: Sigrún Hrólfsdóttir, Jóní Jónsdóttir, and Eirún Sigurðardóttir placed themselves in front of the TV-camera and started kissing each other a few times. Kisses that were a bit longer than a friend’s kiss, but a little bit shorter than a lover’s kiss. At the end of the performance, one of them kissed the camera lens, spreading love through the media, kissing the whole nation.
ILC has since performed The Kiss Performance twice in collaboration with RUV. In 2007 on the occasion of their retrospective exhibition at the Reykjavík Art Museum and in 2016 on the occation of their 20 years anniversary and as a part of an interview when they were on the shortlist of artists representing Iceland at the Venice Biennale 2017.
